Born to be Wild was established in 2018. Its key proposition is to encourage physical and mental wellbeing through our connection to the natural environment.
The company needed a website to establish the brand and its proposition, to encourage new customers to sign up to its coaching packages, and encourage an email and social media following. It will also be a place for company owner, Dave McKee, to share his wisdom and tips and to establish himself as a writer in his field.
Having previously been a client of Dave’s, I had firsthand experience of his skills in personal training and nutrition advice, which I rated very highly. So, naturally I was very pleased when he asked me to quote for the project and to give my creative and technical input.
From the start, Dave was very clear about the content and functionality of the website, and he already had a logo. My role was to create a look and feel that communicated the brand values, but which had a modern, clean, bold, progressive edge.
This was achieved by using a natural colour palette, and tinting photos to match, promoting harmony. But, also by using full bleed photography and bold typography to give the website impact, and just a hint of hipster.
Another feature was the hero area of the homepage. Here, I really wanted to bring home the double edged nature of the proposition: a healthy mind and a healthy planet. I designed a two-page slider and used a subtle line animation to communicate balance between each element.
I designed a custom theme for the website and built it in WordPress. The site was launched at the beginning of January 2019 – just in time for all those New Year’s resolutions! And having received some one-to-one training, Dave now manages all aspects of the website himself.
