Hello. My name is Anna and I am a freelance web designer based in Leeds, England.

With over 10 years experience in digital media, I have worked for many marketing agencies on projects for brands such as Heinz, BAE Systems, Morphy Richards, Hugo Boss, Yorkshire Gold, Asda, Wella, British Energy and Republic Clothing. I've also worked with many end clients directly, such as Orange and i-to-i, and much smaller businesses, particularly in the Arts.

I design clean, usable and engaging websites that sell products/services in ways fit for their audiences, and build websites in hard-coded html or WordPress (so clients can easily update content themselves). I have extensive experience in designing and producing banner ads - some of which are award-winning. I also create animations and highly interactive environments suitable for e-learning, such as quizzes, games and interactive demos, which communicate complex information in accessible ways. More about me.

A little more about me

I have been freelancing since September 2011, when Leeds agency AWA closed its doors to business. I had been Senior Producer there for three and a half years, and was part of a lovely and very talented team, but the recession was just too hard. I made the decision to freelance, rather than look for a permanent job, because I'd spent six years doing it prior to AWA and seemed to get plenty of work. I enjoyed the variety and had only stopped freelancing because one of my favourite clients gave me a job offer that was too good to refuse.

But I've not always been a web designer... I was a graduate in Sociology after all!

My first professional job was a Research Associate for Cardiff University, where I worked on various fixed term projects. Collecting and analysing data and writing research papers and books was all in a day's work but my role also had a technical element.

My first project investigated how technologies changed the researcher's relationship to their data, and for my second project, I took it upon myself to design and build a hypertext application (anyone remember a language called LOGiiX?) to store quantitative and qualitative research data. The aim was to make exploring the data a bit easier, especially for the older members of the team that didn't like computers very much. I even wrote a reference manual on how to use it. And so my interest in the web, usability and design was born.

Finding myself on a different trajectory, I moved to Leeds 1n 1997 and studied multimedia for a year, then a few months later, cut my teeth in my first agency role at Brand New Media. Anyone that worked there knows it was a very special time.
